Cotton Bags Custom Guide
Reusable shopping bags sometimes referred to as living bags in the UK, are a shopping bag that can be reused multiple times.
It is a replacement for disposable paper bags or plastic bags. It is usually a tote made of cotton, canvas, natural fibers (such as jute), woven synthetic fibers or thicker plastics that are more durable than disposable plastic bags, allowing for multiple uses.
Cando Pack is a top cotton bag manufacturer in China, we have rich experience in every detail of cotton bag manufacturing process. Let’s continue reading, how the cotton shopping bags go from materials to goods, and finally to the market.
Chapter 1:
How to Choose Cotton Fabrics
In cotton bag manufacturing industries, how to choose the best materials is a prerequisite for a cotton bag supplier to produce the most satisfactory products for customers.
Thick cloths that are engineered from thin clothing materials range from 4 (OZ) -20 (OZ) ounces. However, 1oz is approximately equivalent to 28 grams per square meter.
Usually, the thickness of clothing materials is directly proportional to how rugged the clothing texture will be. The thicker the clothing material, the more rugged the texture becomes and vice versa.
Usually, regular cotton bags do not have special requirements, for extreme and moderately thick cloths only about 10 to 12 amp of current is required.
It should be noted that moderately thick clothes are the most cost-effective because it comes with a specially made cotton.
However, if you are to transport the product via airplane it is advised you consider materials with a minimum of 5 OZ.
1.1 Simple Classification of Common Handbags
As we all know, there are many types of handbags, which can be classified by the application, the material, or the style. The specialty of each handbags factory is not the same. With more than 15 years of experience, we divide the shopping bags into three categories according to the materials.
1.1.1 100% cotton bags
100% cotton bags are very expensive and they are the high most sort after amongst the Canva bags listed above owing to high demand by consumers and beautiful clothing texture that they are made of (They are usually very soft with makes it very attractive to consumers)
1.1.2 Polyester-cotton bags
Polyester-cotton bags are also in high demand, polyester cotton with the same quality as normal thick cotton feels harder than a whole cotton thick material, which is why some customers prefer polyester-cotton because they are just unit prices higher than the whole cotton and they also feel thicker than the whole cotton.
Polyester and cotton can be divided simply into two categories.
- Category A
- Category B
Category A cotton materials are extremely environmentally friendly, compared to category B cotton materials.
However, category A cotton materials are more perfect and they come with flawless materials and they are priced higher than the later even thou they are made with the same cotton material.
Type | Category A | Category B |
Application | Retail cotton bag | Non-retail, promotion, packaging |
environmental protection | Yes | Yes |
defective rate | 0.3%< | 1%< |
Price | higher | low |
1.1.3 All-polyester bags
All-polyester bags are special-interest bag majorly due to the ease of sublimation (The printing materials are described below).
1.2 Cotton fabrics classified by color
The cotton materials are generally divided into 3 types of colors:
- White series
- black cotton series
- Color series
1.2.1 The white cotton fabric series
Based on the degree of whiteness, there are three types in total.
The natural color cotton cloth can also be referred to as the fabric or beige color fabric and they are in most use by consumers owing to high demand.
Natural color cotton cloths are made of cotton yarn directly woven into the clothing fabric without any form of chemical treatment which is why they are widely known as the most original cotton cloth type.
In this series, we also have the semi-bleached cotton cloth and the fully bleached cotton cloth type.
1.2.2 The black cotton fabric series
The second type of printing materials is black cotton: Black cotton is be divided into printable and non-printable fabrics depending on the application and dyeing method.
Both fabrics are made of environmentally friendly materials and they are guaranteed not to fade easily and these features make these two printing materials highly priced.
The non-printable fabrics often come with greater texture thickness and they are often darker when compared to the printable types.
It should be noted that customers are strongly advised to choose non-printable fabrics if they do not have any specific printing requirements.
The printable fabric types are slightly lighter than the non-printable fabric in terms of the texture thickness. The texture of the printable fabric is a little bit thinner and the prices are a bit higher.
However, prints come out beautifully on the printable fabric, this can be considered a good tradeoff for the slightly high price difference.
1.2.3 The color cotton fabric series
The third is the color series: Our colored fabrics are made of non-reactive dyeing materials. They are environmentally friendly, safe, with the high color fastness and they do not fade easily even on exposure to extreme condition.
Our 8A, 10A, and 12A fabrics in the color series are used more. The Purchasing Department of our company regularly purchases fabrics and the stocks of various colors.
1.3 How can Cando Pack purchase cotton fabrics?
We have several long-term suppliers of cotton fabrics, all of which are well-known brands in China.
Our fabrics are checked from the first selection of cotton yarns. Good cotton yarns can be used to weave good fabrics.
In the early stage of production, we usually have a number of cotton yarn suppliers, but we often chose the best quality supplier for long -term cooperation.
After the cotton yarn is selected, impurities are removed from the yarn, and then the machine weave on the cotton yarn is arranged. As long as the impurities in the cotton yarn are controlled at the early stage, the fabric will be relatively clean after the end.
Chapter 2:
Introduction to Cotton Fabric Printing and Notices
Printing is the toughest part of production in cotton bags manufacturers. It can be said that if the bag is printed beautifully, the whole bag production is half successful.
We often encounter a lot of printing problems in the early stage of production in our factory. However, most of these issues are often swiftly resolved by our production team.
The most frequent of these problems is color differences which is somewhat a universal problem. In order to solve this problem better, we usually refer to the use of the international Pantone color card for comparison.
Once problems such as this are identified we often proceed to confirm from the customer that the color problem is based on the Pantone color card number provided by the customer and we subsequently modulate to a modulation printing color.
If we use color chart contrast to color, which can control more than 95% similar to the problems encountered.
The printing on cotton can be divided into 4 ways:
2.1 Screen Printing
The first type is hand-screen printing. The silkscreen is mainly printed with a monochrome LOGO or a LOGO with a small number of colors. Silkscreen printing is one of the best quality color fastness and the most used.
However, one drawback of silk screen printing is that it cannot print multi-color or print gradient patterns.
We encountered some problems when we started this stage. The most typical problem is the black bag printing white LOGO.
This problem occurred because we started out with ordinary screen printing and printed a white pattern directly on the black fabric. After the pigment was dried, the black fabric at the bottom was revealed to have caused the white LOGO to be thin.
Later, we used walking in the silkscreen. We attached the transparent glue on the printed LOGO and then printed the white portion. This printing was done twice and then it was repeated, taking the tally to a total of four so that the part printed white will be very pure.
2.2 Thermal Transfer Printing
The second type of printing is thermal transfer, which is similar to a layer of self-adhesive glued to the fabric. Thermal transfer is used for printing on papers. However, prints from the paper are then transferred to the fabric at high temperature.
Thermal transfer printing is generally used for gradation printing patterns with a relatively small printing area. The prices for thermal transfer printing are usually higher than that of silk screen printing.
But its firmness is not as good as silk screen printing. However, its advantage over silt screen printing is that it can be used in printing gradient colors as shown below
The thermal transfer printing area is calculated according to the size of the area. We recommend that the LOGO be small and colored or gradated.
There are two ways to implement thermal transfer printing according to customer’s requirements, one is cold tearing and the other is hot tearing.
- Cold Tearing
To implement this method, first transfer the pattern from the paper to the cloth at a very high temperature and then tear off the paper after cooling, so that the printing color is matt under the light. - Hot tearing
Using this method, you are required to transfer the pattern from the paper to the fabric at high temperature and then directly tear the paper off. The color of the pattern will be brighter.
We put a lot of effort into our thermal transfer printing processes. You have to be very careful in selecting the printing papers.
Our paper is specially designed for all kinds of customization. The printing effect of this kind of paper is particularly good, then the ink problem.
We have determined through a series of experiments a suitable ink for thermal transfer.
After a series of experiments we were able to come up with a suitable method, our current thermal transfer technology is one of China’s best
2.3 Digital Printing
The third is digital printing, which was originally used only for proofing but was not popular. Because of the increase in demand for cotton bags in recent years, digital printing is now widely used on cotton bags.
Digital printing is usually used for full-page color printing. Its color firmness is good, but it is not recommended for when the number of bags to be printed is relatively high, let’s say 5,000 bags. However, its advantage over thermal printing is that unit price is particularly cheaper.
2.4 Sublimation Printing
The fourth type of printing is sublimation. Sublimation and digital printing are quite similar to full-color printing.
However, there are two prerequisites for prints while using this method.
First, it should be noted that the quantity of the item to be printed must be relatively large. It is recommended that more than 5,000 sublimated should be made, else the number will be significantly small which may lead to an increase in cost.
The second condition is that all-dimensional cotton must be used because this kind of printing gives the highest color intensity of all the colors you need in your fabric. Also, there are also requirements for the fabrics.
However, due to the two constraints imposed by methods highlighted above, these methods are not particularly common but they are still however in demand.
Also when using this method you are required to first print the pattern on the paper (specialized sublimation paper) and then use high temperature (much higher than the thermal transfer temperature) to melt the printed paper on the polyester-cotton (Only polyester-cotton can firmly absorb the above color and bright colors).
The above printing methods basically cover the printing of all cotton bags and canvas bags.
In communicating with the customer, we always advise the customer on the printing method to be employed according to the customer’s design drawing. In the event that we encounter any problem while implementing the customers chosen method, we communicate with such a customer and advice appropriately
For example, if the lines in the design are relatively thin, then we will recommend bolding. We will fine-tune the printed documents according to the printed documents and then send to the customer for confirmation before we proceed.
Under normal circumstances, the changes will be made in accordance with the customer’s design. When there are differences, we will adjust the design according to the actual situation, and it should be noted that the adjustment is only for better physical effects.
Chapter 3:
Control the Manufacturing Process of Cotton Bags
I. All our bags are edge-locked. The edge-locked technology can lock the fabric without dropping the thread.
II. There are two ways to rectify openings in our bags. The first is closing the opening, closing the opening is a little cheaper than the turning of the bag, but there might be visible threads at the edge of the opening. The second is to change the word, this might lead to unit price increments, but it will be a little more expensive, but a penny or a cent more is a better tradeoff for quality.
III. Wirehead treatment, we use to use manual thread head repair which can be time-consuming and this kind of repair doesn’t come neatly as you will always see wire residue. But now we use blowing machine to rectify such occurrences efficiently and this method is also effective for wire head treatments.
IV. Sewing machine, with new technology updates using a more self-contained sewing machine and with the function of a tangent head than the old machine thread head processing cleaner.
Chapter 4:
How do We Pack Cotton Bags?
When the product is ready, we start packing immediately. We use the standard 5-layer corrugated carton. Also we normally pack 25 bags into a large OPP bag and then 200 or so into a box.
If you have special requirements, you can do well to let us know. Below are the requirements we often get from our clients.
- The need to add separate packaging materials
- The need to add boxes of wheat
- Adding an extra outer layer of packaging
- The need for non-adhesive packing materials
- Adding tags
All other packing requirement requirements aside this can be added.
